MY BACKGROUND
I come from a small city in northern Indiana, called Goshen. I was born and raised in Goshen. I went to Goshen High School and graduated in 2017 with just under 400 students. I was a three sport athlete playing football, basketball, an baseball all four years of high school. I now attend IUPUI majoring in fitness management.
There are many experiences that made me who I am today. Growing up with one parent is the biggest part of who I am. I grew up with one parent since I was five years old. My family had to go through the heart ache when my mother was involved in a car accident the winter on 2005. Since that day my life was changed forever. It made me become more responsible, mature, accountable, and independent.
With having to become yourself and grow up faster than everyone else around me, it made things easier for me. I knew a lot more than my friends and it gave me the perseverance at a young age. Having that at a young age helped in becoming a leader in my sports.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in December of 2020. This rapid diagnosis added a new outlook for me and the lifestyle I live. Looking at it now, I realize the career path I am on is right where I want to be. Helping other with diabetes is a passion I look forward to growing even bigger.
MAJOR
KINESIOLOGY
I chose fitness management for the reason to help other live a happy and healthy lifestyle so they can fully enjoy the days of their life. The knowledge you gain from this major is not only useful for helping other people live healthy but also incorporate the knowledge into improving my own lifestyle. Helping people live happier is the whole reason why I chose this form study.
CAREER GOALS
I have always had a personal connection with health and wellness field. Growing up with sports and staying active helps me have a healthy lifestyle even to the day I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. This diagnoses changed my view point and took me towards helping others live a healthy lifestyle that are dealing with diabetes. Diabetes prevention program director or a wellness director is the route I am heading towards.
EXPERIENCE
Through my years at IUPUI I have had the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience training multiple clients. I was given the opportunity to train a client for personal training. I was able to create a training program to her specific goals over a course of one semester. With this experience of having a client for personal training I learned new traits as a trainer and my coaching style. I am able to transfer the knowledge and experience I have into my future career endeavors.
